Film screening of the documentary ‘Becoming Benjamin Lay’ featuring Mark Povinelli and directed by Tony Buba. The screening will be hosted by Dr Erin Pritchard and Prof Marcus Rediker, the executive producer of the documentary.

Benjamin Lay was an 18th-century Quaker abolitionist known for his fierce opposition to slavery in the American colonies. He staged dramatic protests against slaveholders and wrote one of the earliest anti-slavery books in North America. He was often mocked for having dwarfism. This documentary focuses on intersections of race and dwarfism to celebrate the activism of Benjamin Lay, including interviews from the African American and dwarfism communities.

The event is part of the CCDS and Liverpool Hope University.

Open to staff and students at Hope and the wider public
