This session will explore the ever-increasing range of options for researchers who wish to publish open access, and look at the benefits of doing so. In particular, we will focus on transformative, or ‘Read and Publish’, agreements that the university has in place with a number of academic publishers including Elsevier, Springer Nature, Taylor & Francis, Wiley and Sage. These agreements allow Liverpool Hope researchers to publish open access, without charge. We will also look at Green Open Access and the role of institutional repositories, as well as pre-print repositories.

This session will focus on Zotero and demonstrate how it can help you gather and manage the resources you will collect throughout your research. You will see how to create and set up an account, collect and organise references from different sources, share your library with collaborators, annotate PDFs and generate reference lists in Word or Google Docs.

An electronic copy of all research theses is deposited in Hope’s Institutional Research Archive, from where it will be publicly available. This session will discuss the benefits of making your final thesis open access and consider important copyright issues, relating to scenarios where a student may have published sections of their thesis already, or have plans to do so in the future. We will also discuss the criteria for requesting an embargo on your thesis being made publicly available.
