This core module is delivered online in Moodle.  The module will open on 4th October and close with the final assessment submission on 6th December 2017. Please note that the module continues over half term so if you are unable to commit to this then you should NOT enrol. Further information will be sent by email prior to the start of the module.

Course Description

This module introduces the writings of the Old Testament in order to recognise God’s revelation and its continuing relevance for the Christian life today. Topics include the composition and collection of the Old Testament canon, the biblical history of Israel, Exodus, Law and Covenant, Exile, Prophets and Psalms. Completing the module will enable you to:
i) be familiar with the books and types of literature which make up the Old Testament and set them in their context;
ii) make connections between a particular type of literature and the faith and belief it expresses;
iii) recognise the diversity of images of God in the Old Testament;
iv) appreciate the significance of the Covenant relationship for the people of Israel;
v) understand the relevance of the Old Testament and its use in the Catholic community today.
The module is assessed by online attendance and participation in the module topics and by a 1500 word summative essay on a selcted topic.
