Course Description

This CCRS core module introduces the writings of the Old Testament in order to recognise God’s revelation and its continuing relevance for the Catholic community today.

The module will enable you to become familiar with the books and types of literature which make up the Old Testament and appreciate the role and place of the Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament within the Bible while also understanding the process of composition and collection of books into the canon of Scripture. Various types of Old Testament literature are explored with an emphasis on key texts, while a diversity of images of God are additionally presented. The significance of Covenant, Exodus and Exile are emphasised within the salvation history of the People of Israel, while attention is also given to the Prophets and Psalms.

Assessment for the module is by full attendance and submission of a 1500 word assignment.
