Liverpool Hope University Foundation

Liverpool Hope University has a long and proud history. Established in the mid 19th Century, its constituent colleges provided opportunities for those then excluded from higher education because of their background, their gender or their religion. Almost 175 years later, Liverpool Hope University continues to open up a University education for bright minds from across the globe. The founding colleges strove for excellence and those high academic standards can be seen in the University today - recently awarded the government’s Gold status in the Teaching Excellence Framework and only two years earlier being ranked in the top half of all UK universities when measuring research intensity in the Research Excellence Framework.

However, Liverpool Hope is not blessed with the large endowments of American universities or the older universities in the UK. In order to build on its 175 year history of providing opportunities for all, the University has established a Foundation to create an endowment to benefit future generations of students at a time when public funding tightens and current tuition fee income is quite rightly devoted to providing the high quality education for which Liverpool Hope is renowned. As a demonstration of its own commitment, the University is tithing ten percent of its annual surplus to the Foundation - on current estimates this will be £350,000 to £400,000 a year. The University has taken on no additional borrowing in the past fifteen years in order to be able to invest in its campuses, its facilities and its staffing.
