CUMBRIAN EXPLORER - Saturday 14 October 2017
Set in the beautiful Lake District National Park in Cumbria, we will visit the villages around Lake Windermere, starting with pretty Hawkshead, a village of higgledy-piggledy houses, archways and squares where you can buy souvenirs or have a cup of tea in one of the many teashops.
We continue our tour at the quaint village of Ambleside where you can take a short walk to Stock Ghyll Force, a spectacular 70 foot waterfall, or take lunch in one of the village’s many café’s or pubs.
Then on to the lakeside town of Bowness-on-Windermere where you can browse the tourist shops, visit the ‘World of Beatrix Potter Attraction’ [Entrance fee applies - £7.50 in 2017] or go for a walk on the shore of Lake Windermere and take in the stunning views. Join us for tea and cake in a lakeside tearoom before we go home.
HISTORIC WALES - Saturday 11 November 2017
Our first destination is the imposing Caernarfon Castle - a medieval fortification with two barbicans (gateways), eight massive towers and a great bow-shaped hall - the most magnificent of Edward 1's fortresses, with breath taking views from the battlements across the mountains and sea. The Castle is in the pretty town of Caernarfon, where you will have time to explore the narrow streets and have lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit the small Welsh town of Llandudno, a Victorian spa town set on the coast with a lovely beach, the famous Llandudno Pier extending over 2,000 feet over the sea, quaint shops, cafes and hillside walks.
CHRISTMAS AT CHATSWORTH - Saturday 9 December 2017.
Chatsworth House, set in a breath-taking deer park in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, is a magnificent stately mansion which has been the family home of many generations of the Dukes of Devonshire and the family still live there today. Luckily, they share it with us and we will spend the day exploring the House and gardens. After a lovely drive through the Derbyshire countryside, we will arrive at Chatsworth where you will have time to lunch in one of the restaurants and look around the gift shops before touring the House at 1.30pm. At your own pace, you can tour the staterooms, galleries, dining rooms and Library in the House itself, which, in addition to the beautiful artwork and tapestries, will be lavishly decorated for Christmas with a Dickens theme. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the beautiful landscaped gardens, fountains and sculptures and try to find the centre of the Maze!
Before we head for home, we will call in to the well-stocked Estate Farm Shop to pick up a few Christmas goodies!
